RINGLING GOLD SALISBURY MD (FROM WMDT 47)
Latest News by - Innae Park04/01/2010
SALISBURY, Md. - Heidi and Cassidy Herriott are a mother-daughter pair who are part of a history of circus performers with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus.
Among the animals they handle are miniature horse Lucky Star and their golden retriever Cinnamon.
Having spent so much time with the animals while on the road, the Herriotts say the bond is very strong. "They're part of our extended family, and all of the animal trainers with the circus and presenters, we live with our animals 24/hours a day," said Heidi Herriott. "We see 'em all day long, we hear 'em snore at night, we know when they're feeling good just like people."
Her daughter Cassidy said, "It's a lot of fun to work with them, and so sweet to go up and give 'em a big hug right before the act."
Tickets are still available for this weekend! You can purchase them online or at the Civic Center Box Office. Click on 47 Weblinks for more details.

TOM MIX CIRCUS -- PART 1
TOM MIX AND "TONY"
Mix started in the silent movie era in 1909. He was one of the first to star in sound movies in 1932. He made his last movie, “Miracle Rider,” a western serial, which grossed over $1 million dollars in 1935. He worked for Sells Floto Circus for two years, and then purchased the circus in 1936 from Sam B. Dill. He renamed it “The Tom Mix Circus and Wild West Show.” Due to weather problems and the economy, it folded in 1938.
•Birthplace: Mix Run, Pennsylvania
•Died: 12 October 1940 (automobile crash)
•Best Known As: Fancy-dressin' silent film cowboy
Name at birth: Thomas Hezekiah Mix
Tom Mix was the top cowboy of American silent films. Mix was originally known for his daring stunts, but as years passed he became equally famous for his elaborate cowboy outfits; he's the model for the dandyish, squeaky-clean movie cowboy that was often parodied in later years. Mix also had a famous steed, Tony the Wonder Horse. Mix's movie career wound down in the 1930s, after silent films were replaced by talkies, but later the Tom Mix radio program ran for nearly 20 years with various actors providing the voice of "Tom Mix." Mix himself was killed in a one-car auto accident in Arizona in 1940.
