The 'BUG MAN" from Bob Cox

Any one remember the Bug Man?
Well for you first of mays the Bug Man sold Chamelons that were displayed on a Bug Board.
Here it happens to be a lady on the old Hunt-Bartok show.
The most famous bug man was a little gentleman, with a big heart, Murray Fein.
Bill and I had the pleasure of meeting and becomming friends with Murray when we were playing the Orange County Fair in Middletown, NY.
The "Bugs" were sold with a tiny collar and leash!
Of course today you probably would never get away selling them today that way!
Murray was the Bug Man on the Ringling Show for years!

  1. Hi Dick! One of the few things that I remember from seeing my first circus (Robbins Bros.) at age 4 in Middletown,NY in 1938 was the "Bug Man". My aunt wouln't buy me one because she said it would run out of food. The other thing was the "Snake Charmer" on the bally for the Kid Show.

  2. Dick... Murray & his wife JoAnne had a continous running add in a Boy Scout magazine for Chameleon "mascots" for 5 buckd you could get a lizard a small plastic cage and a matchbox full of grub worms to feed the lizard. Lizards could eat the grub worms in about 20 seconds... what could the kid do??? Ah! there was an order slip in the package... for one dollar you could get another matchbox of worms for your pet.
It was a continous run to the post office supplying food for the lizards. Joannes kids would help sometimes and sometimes they would play around and I recall once they accidently left the cage door open and 500 lizards escaped, they were all over Murrays house.... one thing was for sure, he didn't have to worry about flies.
