Michigan: Shrine Circus Loses Home

The state said it would not rent a building on the recently shuttered Michigan State Fair grounds for March performances of the 103-year-old Detroit Shrine Circus. The decision is likely to mean the end of the circus, the nation’s oldest Shrine circus, which had been held at the Michigan State Fair coliseum since 1925. It lost that venue last fall when Michigan decided it could no longer afford to operate the 106-year-old fair, also the nation’s oldest.
