If you’re in the mood for a modern take on the circus experience, check out the Universoul Circus when it appears at the Richmond International Raceway from Tuesday, March 13 to Sunday, March 18.
Certainly, the production hasn’t been around as long as that other well-known circus, but what it lacks in tenure it more than makes up in excitement.
So, what sets the Universoul Circus apart?
Well, the traveling troupe bills itself as a multicultural circus experience, and on that note, expect to see acts from distant parts of the world such as Caribbean dancers, Chinese aerialists and a Russian swing act.
Also, expect to see a more contemporary take on the usual circus staples such as the Globe, a motorcycle group that does its work inside a metal sphere and the Transformers, a hip-hop dance group. At the same time, the entire production is set to gospel, Latin, pop, rap and R&B tunes.
But the show also includes animal acts, clowns and those high wire performances that longtime circus fans just can’t live without. And ringmaster Tony Tone is one of the most energized presenters out there, so expect to see a show that will wow from start to finish.
The Universoul Circus will appear at the Richmond International Raceway from Tuesday, March 13 to Sunday, March 18. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. nightly, and tickets are $20-$35. For more information about Universoul Circus, please visit www.universoulcircus.com.
