Yates fair will open for 173rd year

    YATES COUNTY,NY—For five days the fairgrounds will be alive with activity for the annual 173rd Yates County Fair, this Tuesday, July 10, to Saturday, July 14.
    The fair is put on each year by the Yates County Agricultural Association, an independent organization. Yates has one of the few remaining owner-operated fairs in New York state with more than 8,000 people attending each year.
    The schedule includes tractor pulls, fireworks, animal exhibits, food and entertainment. The fair opens Tuesday at 10 a.m. The 4-H will hold a pet show at 1:30 p.m. There will also be a Figure 8 demonstration at 7 p.m. with fireworks.

   Wednesday’s big event is an ATV Rodeo: registration starts at 5 p.m., while the event is at 7 p.m. The youth will do a 4-H horse show from 9 a.m. to noon and the first mannequin modeling and public presentations from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitors will get to see a redneck truck pull on Thursday, along with the 4-H poultry and horse Gymkhana shows. Friday includes the 4-H goat show at 2:30 p.m. and a tractor pull at 6 p.m.
    There will be a garden tractor pull from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday. For more on this event, call Mark Johncox 315-521-7614. The 4-H and open livestock show starts at 10 a.m., followed by the dog show at 2 p.m.
