State Fair of Virginia starts this week under new ownership.

Many people weren’t sure if there would even be a State Fair this year, considering that the State Fair of Virginia announced its bankruptcy last year and was sold at auction this past May to Mark Lovell of Universal Fairs LLC, located in Memphis, Tenn.
But a core group of organizers and die-hard State Fair fans quickly mobilized to get the State Fair ready to open its gates this Friday, Sept. 28 through Oct. 7 at Meadow Event Park.
“It’s just been an amazing effort by a core group of people who have sacrificed a lot” to get the fair up and running this year, says Greg Hicks of the Virginia Farm Bureau.

Expect to see plenty of familiar sights at the fair, including midway rides, deep-fried fair food, pig races and a focus on Virginia’s agricultural life.
