STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- As the Labor Day sun hid behind foreboding gray rain clouds, Staten Islanders managed to squeeze in one more day of fun at the Richmond County Fair -- where children, parents and everyone in between celebrated the end of summer with the type of small-town charm only this festival could bring.
"This is kind of the last hurrah for summer, and a chance for kids to get outside and have some fun before they're back at school," said Bob Coghlan, president of Historic Richmond Town and co-chair of the Richmond County Fair. "It's great seeing the kids on the rides each year, stuffing their face with cotton candy. It's a good time for everyone."
The 33rd edition of the outdoor festival set in the heart of Historic Richmond Town featured notable acts from previous years, such as a flying flea circus, live music, bike stunt riders and myriad carnival foods and rides.
"We try to have a little something for everyone," said Coghlan of this year's festivities; he said the attendance was in line with previous years.
