Lack of attendance continues for UniverSoul

For an entertainment act, such as a circus, with performers and organizers primarily of the African-American community filled with color, culture and spectacle not to receive the proper respect in an urban area like Savannah from the very same people it was designed to entertain and honor is shameful.

The UniverSoul Circus revisited Savannah on November 22 for four days, performing two shows per day. The scent of fresh kettle corn and funnel cakes filled the air in the National Guard Armory, where the circus was hosted. Music poured through the speakers and excitement hovered in the air.

The Universe Soul Circus is a compilation of the African American culture compiled with urban music, theatrical dance, and acrobatic stunts.

As lights dimmed and music rose, a ballerina hit center stage wearing pink point shoes and performed a lyrical-inspired ballet piece. The show continued with the introduction of ring masters, and this year’s special ring master was Comedian Shucky Ducky from late-night stand-up comedy shows that air on BET.

Contrary to the popular belief –that African-Americans  are incapable of starting on time– the show started on schedule at 11:30 am.

In a venue that holds over 200 people, guests were shocked by poor attendance. Only 20 people were seated when the show began.

Crowds of people began to rush in 30 minutes into the show with blatant disregard for the show and the audience.
