Circus animals to parade down Demonbreun on Thursday

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus brings its dragon-themed show to Nashville this week. Before any acrobats tumble or trapeze artists fly, the circus sends a clown to town.
Local children can meet a clown during story time at the Nashville Public Library, at 615 Church St., at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Boys & Girls Club members get their turn Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. A clown will entertain kids at the Glenview Clubhouse, 1020 Patricia Drive; families are welcome.
Ringling Bros. traditionally parades its famous animals from the circus train to the performance venue in public procession. The train is tentatively scheduled to arrive in Nashville Thursday morning, with the animal walk expected to begin at 9:30 a.m.
Circus spokeswoman Brooke Bloom cautions that because the “Dragons” show is traveling to Nashville from Miami — a longer trip than from Columbia, S.C., its usual stop just before Music City — that the arrival time and animal walk are considered tentative.
The circus begins its seven-show run in Nashville with a 10:30 a.m. performance on Friday. Other show times are 7 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m., 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday. All performances except Friday morning include free “pre-show” entertainment one hour before performance time. That’s a chance for children to meet the circus artists and some of the animals.
Feld Entertainment Inc., Ringling’s parent company, will donate $1 for each ticket sold for the Friday night show to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University. It also planned to send a clown to visit patients at the hospital this week.
