NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – Rescued dogs will be among the performances featured in the Yankee Doodle Circus that’s coming to Northbridge on Wednesday.

A fund-raiser by the Northbridge High School class of 2013, two shows will be presented in the high school field house, 427 Linwood Ave., Whitinsville, at 5:15 and 7:30 p.m.

Money raised will go to the class of 2013 student-activity fund.
Joanne Wilson’s Wonder Dogs are one of the stand-out features in the circus program. Most of the dogs were rescued from animal shelters and pounds.

“The dogs are like my kids. Besides the 14 performing dogs with the circus, I have several retired dogs that are still part of the family,” said Wilson. “The dogs are eager to perform. I think they really like the applause. They always know when it’s showtime because they get all excited.”

The Yankee Doodle Circus is a unique circus and definitely non-traditional.
The “kid-friendly” circus and variety show is performed by professional circus artists. Children attending the show are invited to sit on the floor close to the performing area. The circus is appropriate for the entire family.

The circus was founded in 1974 by Mike Naughton, a graduate of the world-famous Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Clown College. He now serves as the ringmaster.

Touring from January through April, the show appears as a fund-raiser for school and community groups.

  1. Hi Dick -

Barry Lubin (Grandma) and I attended Clown College in 1974. This photo is at least 15 years old I think.

    Of course, Grandma is retired.

I don't know how this photo ended up with the current press release. We have a new press kit made each season.

Grandma did work a winter season with Yankee Doodle in the mid-90s I think.
