LEWISBURG, Pa. — Circa, a contemporary circus ensemble from Australia, will perform on Thursday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University. The event is sponsored, in part, by Stephen Lindenmuth.

Circa's performances, considered a new frontier in circus arts, embrace improvisation, multimedia and collaboration, and are infused with an immersive use of light and sound.

The performers move from highly connected acrobatic and tumbling sequences, through fast-paced intricate scenes where precision and timing are everything. Their signature style combines physical beauty, formidable circus skills, sound, light and projection.

"Daredevil acrobatics, aerial dance, physical theatre, and surprising contemporary dance combine to make Circa a unique phenomenon," said Kathryn Maguet, executive director of the Weis Center.

"This Australian circus-arts company has received rave reviews throughout the world, and now central Pennsylvania audiences can experience this mesmerizing work in their very own backyard. Seven multi-talented performers reveal the astounding strength and beautiful architecture of the human body in an exhilarating and risk-taking performance - this is a must-see performance!

"The fast-paced 65-minute performance will be a great opportunity for students to experience the performing arts on a school night and still have plenty of time for homework," she said.

A highlight of their Weis Center performance will be the work, "CIRCA," a large-scale self-titled creation that involves seven performers. Remixed from three of the company's most acclaimed works, and internationally praised as a work of physical poetry and beauty, it is considered Circa's most accessible and engaging work.

Since 2006 Circa has toured to 24 countries across five continents. Critics have raved about its shows calling the work "stunning ... exquisite ... heart-stopping" and "electrically charged." The New York Times says, "... just astonishing physical mastery."

Tickets for the performance are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors ages 62+, $10 for youth under 18 and $10 for all college students.
