Circus in town
The action-packed Chinese State Circus show ‘Yin Yang’ is swinging, leaping and catapulting into The Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on April 15.
The Chinese State Circus is the embodiment of a traditional art form which can trace its history back over 2000 years. This stunning production lives and breathes with the enthusiasm of its acrobatic artistes, whose lives centre around their skills. The result is a pure,  exhilarating people circus that is a true privilege to see, and proof conclusive that circuses do not need to use animals to draw a crowd and leave spectators in awe.
The circus features daring, breathtaking and thrilling artistes, including the formidable Shaolin Master known as ‘The One’. Acrobats also defy gravity as the ancient discipline ‘Icarian Games’ returns to centre stage. This act, rarely seen in circus arts, is steeped in tradition and is a remarkable display of human juggling, where the human body becomes catapult and catcher in an elaborate, explosive and highly choreographed presentation of power, poise and agility.
The show features unpredictable and exhilarating twists of foot-juggling with drums,  swinging poles, sensational contortionism and dynamic hoop divers, who perform amazing somersaults, leaps and jumps.
Each act flows into the next, without narrative, and is accompanied by a captivating and atmospheric all-girl group of live musicians.
Suitable for audiences of all ages, with evocative sets, soaring musical scores and extravagant new costumes, the Chinese State Circus offers entertainment for the entire family. Just don’t try it at home!
The Chinese State Circus ‘Yin Yang’ show will be performed at The Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Mon, April 15. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm. Tickets (€27.50, €22.50, Family €80) are available from the Royal Theatre box office
