Circus, aerial show benefits autistic adults

Trapeze artists, hoop twirlers, jugglers, stilt walkers, musicians and more — the circus is coming to Breakthrough Corp.
It’s the second year for the annual “no-animal” event, which benefits the nonprofit Breakthrough, a community for adults with autism.
There will be two performances, Thursday and Saturday, both at 7 p.m. at the Breakthrough Corp. Warehouse, 1805 Maryville Pike. The house opens at 6 p.m., and there will be circus play with the performers from 6-6:30. Refreshments will be sold. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and younger; younger than 2 are admitted free.
Scheduled are trapeze and silks artists from Dragonfly Aerial Arts Studio, amusement acts from One World Circus, live music from Groundswell Circus Band, jugglers, stilt walkers, cyclists, hoop twirlers, a tight-wire walker, lyra artists and more.
Dragonfly and One World rent the warehouse, a former industrial paint workshop, for rehearsal space, and conceived the idea for the circus last year, as a fundraiser for Breakthrough, which eventually hopes to renovate the warehouse for use by residents of its neighborhood of autistic adults.
The neighborhood, founded by parents who wanted their children with autism to be able to live independently as adults, includes seven houses, with groundbreaking for more planned this summer.
