Circus Elephant Shot Outside Tupelo, MS Arena

(Tupelo, MS) A drive-by shooting takes one of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey elephants offstage for six to eight weeks.

Carol, a 39-year old Asian elephant was shot Tuesday morning hours the crew finished setting up what’s called the circus compound.
It’s something Ringling Brothers says has never happened in its long history.

Rob Lang, General Manager for Ringling’s “Gold Edition,” “Never in the one hundred forty-three years of Ringling Brothers Circus has anything like this ever happened. So, a lot of disbelief, a lot of disappointment.”

Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey arrived Sunday night at BancorpSouth Arena and worked all day Monday to set up its outdoor compound where circus employees live and where animals are housed.
