KITCHENER — There doesn’t seem to be much connection between circus acts and symphony orchestras — at least not until you experience the Georgia-based Cirque de la Symphonie, which performs with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony this weekend.
“The music is amazing … then there is the visual element to go with it,” said acrobatic gymnast, Christine Van Loo, who holds several titles including seven-time consecutive national champion, female Olympic athlete of the year and athlete of the decade.
Cirque takes advantage of the performance art made popular with the Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil, which uses only human performers, and then they add the element of a full orchestra. Aerial flyers, acrobats, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, balancers, and strongmen zip around on stage, as well as fly over it.
