THE Sensory Circus Tribe got Coolum locals shaking their hula-hoop hips at Tickle Park in celebration of World Circus Day.
People of all ages enjoyed a colourful display of performances and circus activities in the park, followed by a fire-twirling finale on the beach after the sun went down.
Karyn Smith, the tribe's director, said the impromptu workshop ran simultaneously with circus lovers all around the world.
"There is a lot of negativity around in the media and society, and what circus does is allow people to connect back with what is in the core essence of us," Mrs Smith said.
"We are creative beings - we do come from positivity and we do come from love."
Mrs Smith said the power of circus was overlooked by many, and she hoped to bring more of the expression to the Coast and other areas where there was a "gap" in the arts.
The Pilates and yoga teacher launched the Sensory Circus Tribe 15 years ago, after a "journey into live theatre ignited a passion".
She is also studying Western herbal medicine, and said her circus group helped people to overcome fears and nurture self-confidence.
"Circus is a wonderful healing tool for people; it is great for overcoming fears."
Caloundra resident Marguerite Peach has performed with the tribe for more than four years, and said she loved being creative in a non-judgmental environment.
"It is an expression of your true self," she said.
The two enjoy costume design and create most elements of their performance, which they would like to show off internationally in the next few years.
World Circus Day was on Saturday.
