The circus is coming to Westhampton this week, with the return of Zoppe Italian Family Circus.
The Zoppe Family has been in the circus business since 1842, when Napoline Zoppe a street performing clown fell in love with a ballerina while in Budapest and the two began a family and performance troupe together.  A one-ring circus, the current show follows a single story about a bumbling clown named Nino as he moves through a scene scape of acrobatic, equestrian and animal acts.
The circus will have five performances, beginning this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. Friday and Saturday will also have 7 p.m. shows. There is also a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday and Sunday.
This is the third time the Zoppe Family Circus has performed in Westhampton, and excitement runs high. According to Jodi Giambrone Manager of Public Relations at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, 85 percent of the tickets are already sold out, and for good reason.
“It’s incredible, it’s something different than we’ve ever decided to do,” She said, “It has an old world charm. It’s very magical.”
Part of what sets the show apart is its smaller size and also the care taken for the performers— including the animals. There are no lions or tigers, only chickens, dogs and horses, but every one of them is a rescue.
Tickets are $54 for adults, and $29 for children twelve and under.
Tickets can be purchased online at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center website: http://whbpac.org/
