A group of Perth high school circus performers has jumped through plenty of hoops to take their act to Disneyland and Hollywood.
The Healthway Canning Vale College Circus Troupe made it through five rounds of auditions to be selected for eight days of performances at Disneyland, Universal Studios and Madam Tussauds in Los Angeles this month.
The 26 children were the first high school circus performers to win a spot on the Disneyland schedule, which normally hosted professional dance outfits, Canning Vale College teacher and troupe director Crystle Challinger said.
Hula hoop specialist Murron Carroll, 16, said the trip, which started on Saturday, would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the jugglers, acrobats and clowns. "None of us is going to get a chance like this again," she said.
Murron joined the circus four years ago after initially wanting to be a dancer.
"I do love circus. We work really hard together to do what we do. We are like a family," she said.
The troupe was founded five years ago to perform circus shows with positive health messages for primary schools and at community events.
Ms Challinger said the children, aged 13 to 17, devoted hours to practising after school. "These kids work extremely hard and we focus them on goal-setting, persistence and working as part of a team," she said.
