Independence, Iowa--The public was invited to the Buchanan County Fairgrounds Wednesday afternoon to watch members of the Independence Fire Department wash the Carson and Barnes Circus elephants Kelly (foreground) and Viola. Fireman Blake Hayward (with hose), takes his cues from Elephant Trainer Chip Arthur (white shirt). Fireman Mitch Smith (standing by hose) got to wash the first elephant.
