MANSFIELD,OHIO — The Richland County Fair was a huge success, with fair manager Dean Wells estimating attendance at the second highest mark ever, based on amusement company receipts of almost $112,000.
He said that is just a guess, as final attendance numbers are not in.
“We averaged Monday through Wednesday almost 4,000 in attendance a day,” he said.
“Saturday night was exceptional,” he said. “The grandstand was packed. We couldn’t put any more people in. We had an excellent turnout for the tractor pull and Phil Dirt and the Dozers.” The fair board worked hard to bring free family entertainment, which included Phil Dirt, a circus and entertainment in the nature park.
Wells said the Richland County Fair brings about $1 million into the county in one week, with much of that coming from the sale of animals.
“There was a lot of money spent here,” he said.
He said the fair runs smoothly because of the volunteers.
“We have a lot of serious volunteers help with everything, including tickets,” he said. “It is a labor of love for many people. We’re very fortunate in Richland County to have that.”
He said he had a lot of people walk up to him and compliment him about the fair this year.
