The Jerome County Fair was a five-day event that featured 4–H fairs, rodeos, and carnivals. One of the highlights was the pig wrestling competition, which draws crowds from all over every year.
Teams of four enter a 16x16 foot muddy ring and the goal? Very simply to get a pig in a barrel.
But is it as simple as it sounds? We were about to find out.
Before we got to it, we asked some fellow competitors for some advice.
We were warned, "wear no shoes, you've got to corner him."
And who did they think was going to win, us or thepig?
"He's fast, he's fast he can run fast."
A minute was put on the clock. After we were given our command, we hopped in the ring to meet our match the pig... Or "Spare Rib" as he is called.
Unfortunately he was faster than expected, and very elusive.
When the time was up, we accepted our defeat.
Maybe next year, but for this year at least, the pig wins.
