Prestonburg,KY--
PRESTONSBURG — The Oleika Shrine Circus will be marking its 40th anniversary when it returns to town this weekend, even as its primary organizer over the decades has fallen ill.
The circus will return to Prestonsburg High School this year, after renovations last year forced a move to Allen Central High School. The show is expected to include all of the favorites audiences have come to expect over the years, complete with stunts, animals and clowns.
The circus will have two showings, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday. Tickets are $10.
Local barber Kelly Moore, a past Potentate with the Shriners who has been the primary force behind the circus over the years, fell ill earlier this week and is currently recovering. Moore has battled serious health issues for the past couple of years.
But Moore’s brother said he expects Moore to make every effort to be at this year’s circus.
“Hopefully, he’ll be able to be down there,” Robert Moore said. “He’s been so good for them, and you’ve got to have a leader. It’s just a love for him to do it.”
