Football begins with a kickoff. The 66th Annual Crosby Fair & Rodeo begins with a cook-off. The unmistakable aroma that calls customers practically by name would be coming from the Fair & Rodeo grounds in Crosby, particularly on June 1-2 when the cook-offs get the party started.
Fair & Rodeo events are scheduled through Saturday, June 9.
The fair and rodeo draws visitors from far beyond the community. The entertainment, cuisine and activities for children continue to generate excitement.
Excitement begets people.
“We’re expecting it to be a great turnout, all the way from the cook-offs through the Fair and Rodeo; everything is going to be good,” Crosby Fair & Rodeo Inc. spokesman Ray Marek said. “It’s a tradition. Crosby Fair & Rodeo is a tradition, always has been, for the 66th year this year.”

“We’re expecting it to be a great turnout, all the way from the cook-offs through the Fair and Rodeo; everything is going to be good,” Crosby Fair & Rodeo Inc. spokesman Ray Marek said. “It’s a tradition. Crosby Fair & Rodeo is a tradition, always has been, for the 66th year this year.”

Recording artists are scheduled to perform beginning at 9 p.m. on each Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as on Thursday, June 7. On Friday, June 1, Breelan Angel will open for the Casey Donahew Band. On the following Saturday night, Jason Cassidy will open for Kyle Park.
The entertainment lineup for June 7 through June 9 includes Hill Country Jane, Kevin Fowler, Bonnie Bishop, Roger Creager, Philip Griffin Band, and Stoney LaRue.
Organizers love to tout the events that they plan. At the same time, they want the community to know that the young people who benefit from this fair and rodeo are collectively the centerpiece of it.
Crosby High School seniors earn scholarships through the fair and rodeo corporation. Students will bring in the animals they have been raising for judging and for auction. Livestock will go on the auction block at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6.
“We’re looking forward to a great auction for the kids,” Marek said. “They get their money for their animals. ... Our mission for doing the Crosby Fair & Rodeo is promoting youth through the education in agriculture.”
In the week leading up to the fair and rodeo, workers with an amusement rides company were assembling a dozen children’s rides. Even they love the event as well as Crosby as a whole.
“I love setting up for this event,” Brian Pearson of Jim’s Rides said, as he and the rest of the crew assembled amusement rides. “All the music, the people are wonderful, and we get treated nice here. We just love it.”
Crosby residents also hold the fair and rodeo dear.
“It just pulls the community together and we appreciate that,” Marek said.
