The Big Apple Circus and the Downtown Somerset Alliance will bring a special and unprecedented preview of the Big Apple Circus performance of “Legendarium” to Division Street in Somerville on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 1-2:30 p.m. The preview performance will be the highlight of the “Circus Fair” that will include street performers who will provide entertainment for young and old.
The “Legendarium” preview will feature the Accrobuffos, Seth Bloom and Christina Gelsone who met at a circus in Afghanistan, were engaged while street performing in Scotland, and married in China where Christina wore a dress made of little white balloons. Since becoming clown partners in 2006, they have created five shows together, competed in international circus festivals, performed in over 18 countries, juggled on Letterman, and were featured in The New York Times.
Seth is a former professional juggler who graduated from three clown schools and makes each clown mask by hand. Christina is a former professional ballerina who graduated from Princeton to become a clown. Her character, Madame, is based on an actual 19th-century clown painted by Toulouse-Lautrec. The couple lives in Harlem in New York City.
Joel Jeske, last seen on our area as part of the 2007 performance of the Big Apple Circus’ “Step Right Up” will serve as ringmaster along with his gathering Big Apple Circus “Circus 2 Go Clowns.”
