Fairgoers enjoy The Vertigo, a new, 110-foot spinning ride, at the Lake County Fair on Sunday. Fair attendance has been up for the first two days, according to fair officials.

CROWN POINT,IN — Lake County Fair offerings are just as everyone remembers them, with animals, motocross and fried food far as the eye can see. The midway, however, has a brand new thrill in the form of The Vertigo, a towering 110-foot ride of spinning and height.

Both Laszlo and Blomsness encourage fairgoers to purchase a Megapass if they want to ride the rides. At $65 per pass, it’s good for the rest of the fair.

“Let’s put it this way: One ride is $5,” Blomsness said.

On the fair’s opening night, 12-year-old Sadie Smith of Crown Point was defying the odds as she rolled a bowling ball into the sweet spot to win a stuffed pink raccoon. Two more rolls and she won again, upgrading her raccoon to a larger one.

“This is my dad’s favorite game. I guess he passed it on,” Sadie said. Her dad and mom, Todd and Tracey Smith, and her siblings, Tucker 15, and Harry, 9, were joined by Todd’s brother, Andy Smith, from North Carolina and his daughter, Holly.
