PIC: Zebra escapes from circus, then hides in plain sight on striped road
The black-and-white animal eludes cops in the German town of Bitburg, who say the beast simply blended in.

Zebra crossing!
The black-and-white animal confused cops in Germany after bolting from a circus.
Officers in Bitburg claimed they couldn't see the beast because it blended in with striped markings on the road.
It took them a few seconds, they said, to realize the escapee was standing right in front of them.
A handler soon arrived on the scene, some 125 miles west of Frankfurt, to round the animal up and return it to the Big Top.
The police's version of events may be a slight twisting of the truth, however, with Bild newspaper reporting they told the story "with a wink."
