Pagosa Springs, CO--Although I could not attend the circus recently traveling through Pagosa Springs, it brought back good memories of days past. And the words "days past" are the key.
In this time of computers, cell phones, iPads, and fast communication, I seriously doubt any child below the age of 12 had ever seen a circus. Many perhaps had not visited a zoo to see such animals, let alone see them perform .
In this "high wired" time we live in, everything a person does is objectionable to some extent, isn't it? We cannot use purple ink when writing checks at City Market, can't use plastic bags to carry our groceries home, can't eat unhealthy food above all, and using gasoline and diesel to fuel our vehicles is nearly punishable by flogging.
Someone is always protesting what someone else wants, uses or needs. Meanwhile, we just go on our way and try to ignore those types.
However, after reading a recent letter to the editor of the local newspaper, I see it is perfectly alright to have a mentally challenged person sitting daily on our downtown sidewalks, harassing the public, spitting and yelling obscenities...
So, evidently, we need to empty all the places where some mentally challenged persons are confined, and allow them to join this miserable person right there on Main Street. No problem. Almost makes me want to take up a sign and protest stupidity among do-gooders.
Meanwhile I wish the PETA people would lay off the circus. I feel it will soon be a thing of the past anyway, and there were a bunch of children and adults who witnessed a pleasure from the past that day in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
