Children get a close look at the camels before the Loomis Brothers Circus on Wendnsday night at the Livestock Pavillion in Ocala. The young camels , ages 1 and 2 weigh from 750 to 1150 pounds at this age and when fully grown will weigh 3,000 pounds. They are super intelligent and recieved about 10 weeks training for the show. This will be thier 4th performance. .

Star Circus Clown Bello Nock Ready to Sock New Victory

It’s spring, which means it’s annual circus time in New York and the surrounding region. The extensive renovation of Madison Square Garden has guaranteed that Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, after a 140+ year tradition with the various Garden sites, won’t ever play the site again unless it brings in a scaled-down show. So RBBB premieres their Built to Amaze edition at Brooklyn’s spanking new Barclays Center beginning March 20. Cirque du Soleil has pitched its tent at Queens’ Citi Field for the New York premiere of their long-touring show Totem. Our born and bred Big Apple Circus is in Bridgewater, NJ, through March 17; and come May 19 (into mid-June) will pitch its colorful tent in Fresh Meadows, Queens Cunningham Park. Come October, the Big Apple premieres its new show at Lincoln Center.

Circus favorite Bello, famous for daring antics and his signature skyscraper red hair (standing one foot high) -- and who’s often referred to as the Don King of Clowns -- has his own show, and you only have to travel to Times Square and 42nd Street's New Victory Theatre March 15 - 31 for the U.S. premiere of Bello Mania.
Named America’s Best Clown by Time, and awarded the circus world’s highest honor, the Gold Clown, at the Monte Carlo International Circus Festival, which was presented by Princess Stephanie, Bello Nock has been performing since age three, when he was the baby on the burning house in Disney on Parade's Dumbo's Circus. At 6, Bello toured as Michael Darling in Peter Pan, starring Cathy Rigby.

While working revolving ladder routine with her husband, Kellan at opening show today, Julia Bermudez (Maribel) fell from the ladder. She was taken to Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, where it was determined that she has a wrist fracture that will require surgical repair. The Cole Bros. Circus family wishes her a speedy recovery. We love you, Maribel.

Logan Family Reunion
Circus opening in DeLand provided opp for Logan family reunion, as Vicenta's mom, Frieda, and aunts Lillian, Naomi and Sandy came to see her debut at CBC. Mary Jo didn't make it--and we miss her--but her granddaughter came. We fondly remember the days when the "Logan Girls" graced the ring. We welcomed the newest "Logan Girl," Vicenta's daughter Vanessa to our CBC family this week.

Today is CBC's final day in DeLand. Tonight the circus moves to Gainesville, FL and the journey that will continue for nearly 9 months. This week has been bittersweet. We mourn the loss of Mike Norris's mom and dad. We watched in shock as our friend Maribel fell. We welcomed the arrival of new members of our circus family, among them the Tabares and the Fassios. We saw tears in the eyes of John Pugh after dress rehearsal as he thanked everyone for making the 2013 edition of CBC remarkable. We opened. Now we begin our 2013 journey, with hope that our circus family will bring joy to all the towns we visit and all the families who visit our Big Top.

Children wowed by circus acrobats at Levoy Theatre

MILLVILLE — Thanks to a grant by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders, 550 children were wowed by circus acrobatics last Wednesday at the Levoy Theatre.
The funding provided $3,500 to bring the Cirque Ziva Golden Dragon Acrobats to the Levoy and reduce the ticket price for the children.
“While the logistics of getting all the students in and out provided a challenge to our staff, it was well worth the effort as it became obvious the children were having a wonderful time watching the performance,” said Vincent Bianca, Levoy director of operations.
Students from Bacon, Holly Heights and Reick Avenue schools in Millville and West Avenue School in Bridgeton attended the matinee event.
Fifty additional children came from the Millville Police Athletic League and 100 from South Jersey Health Care in Vineland.

SEVERAL years ago, in Paris, I attended a performance of “nouveau cirque,” or “new circus.” This was far from your usual lion tamers and elephants: the show took place in a sleek white tent, its lobby filled with fashionable people lounging on red velvet couches. The performers, who wore tattered suit coats and scuffed leather shoes, were actors as much as acrobats, dancers as much as daredevils. They chanted Proust into crackling microphones and shouted Simon and Garfunkel lyrics.
When the strongman, screaming, spun with his enormous wooden chair, I could see the sweat pour from his brow. It was a brooding piece of theater, dark and intense. Why was it so hard to find this sort of performance, let alone with this sort of audience, in the United States?
After decades of decline, the circus is booming around the world. From Norway to Nepal, new circus companies and schools are springing to life at a rate unprecedented in the modern circus’s nearly 250-year history.
In France, there are more than 450 troupes and 600 schools. Some 20 countries, including Belgium, Australia and Mexico, have established professional circus training grounds. At the National Circus School of Montreal, where I now teach, more than 150 full-time students come from 20 countries to train in facilities that rival Juilliard’s. The school’s job placement rate is 95 percent.

KATHMANDU: Buddha hall of DAV School Jawalakhel was filled with sounds of clapping and whistles when a group of talented young performers began to present their skills on ropes, brooms and wooden chairs at a circus show Swagatam (Welcome) organised by Circus Kathmandu on March 15 and 16.

A group of 13 talented young girls and boys performed high quality aerial- and ground-based acts. Aerial acts on silks, hoop and trapeze were demonstrated by them. When these performers were helping themselves to form a pinnacle, their daring act gave goose bumps to the audience.

Hula hoop, a toy hoop turned around the waist and limbs, was one of the best presentations. Their act of juggling of broom along with acrobatics too entertained the audience.

Contortion, the bending and flexing of the body, was yet an appreciative performance to add colour to the circus. Similarly, hand balancing acts kept the audience’s eyes fixed on the performers who astounded the audience with their energy and skills.

While the performance was going on, they also told the audience about their past lives and challenges of learning these skills which are necessary for circus.

“These people are working together to tell the stories of their past and present lives through the medium of circus. All of them were rescued from Indian circuses and now they are trying to make a living with their skills that they learnt during their stay in India,” said Ali Williams, Creative Director of Circus Kathmandu.

Circus Kathmandu is a company of talented acrobats, aerialists and physical performers who are working together to share their stories of the past and present through contemporary circus. With an aim to promote circus in Kathmandu, it has been providing trainings for those rescued from Indian circus.

Forget traditional circuses. That is so last century. What we need is a traveling show full of comic book legends. Well ask, and ye shall receive – Marvel has teamed up with Feld Entertainment to give us just that.

The two are making a $10 million investment into this idea. Feld has a lot of experience in this area. They have already produced Disney On Ice and Ringling Bros. So they know what they are doing when it comes to stuff under the Big Top. Really, how can you lose when you throw Superheroes into the mix?
The possibilities are endless here too. Think about how much mythology they have to work with. Maybe we will see classic storylines played out. Then again, maybe we will see the Hulk swinging from a trapeze, and Captain America with a clown nose. I hope not – I think this could be a great idea if done right.

The two animals, which are penned in behind a metal fence in a tent, seem unable to graze or move around freely.
According to Animal Defenders International, which captured the images, the camels have little space to do anything until they are made to perform in front of hundreds of people.
The photographs, taken yesterday, once again raise questions over the welfare of animals in travelling circuses.
Although the Government is working towards a total ban, at present circuses that obtain a special wild animal licence can still use them in their shows.

As well as the camels, two reindeer and two zebras as well as horses, a donkey and a dog, are performing at Circus Mondao, one of only two circuses in Britain to hold a licence.
Jan Creamer, chief executive officer of ADI, said: “The public is in support of a ban, parliament is overwhelmingly in favour of a ban, yet the Government refuses to take the simple and more economic option to prevent further suffering.
“These new licences do nothing to improve the lives of the animals.
“As our photographic evidence shows, there are still camels and other animals being locked in trailers and taken on the road and then left in cramped pens. Camels are large animals who need space to move around, to graze.”
