JOHNNY J. JONES EXPOSITION

1920's

  1. My great grandfather was with a circus off and on between the 1920's and 1940's. I believe it was the Jonnie J. Jone's circus. I have some old photos as does my sister and two aunts. He, Joseph Paul, JP, Leonard was the person who put the rides together. His first wife, Leray VonRedding aka Redding Leonard was a dancer who wore costumes from foreign countries and did dances from those countries. His second wife, Mary, don't know her maiden name, had a dog act with jack russell terrios. His daughter, my grandmother, Iris Leonard, helped step mom Mary with the dogs and then when old enough, sold tickets at the main gate. If anyone has any information about them or anyone who may have been in the circus with them, please contact me, Donna Harris, at donnabill@xipline.com. I know it has been too long for any survivors of that time, but maybe some grand children or great grandchildren have heard stories. I know my great grandfather and grandmother had some wonderful stories from their time in the circus.

    1. I live in a home where the circus stayed over the winter and Nellie the elephant is supposed to be buried here. We have put 2 posters up as a tribute.
