Circus comes to Meriden for three days

MERIDEN — A late afternoon tempest aggressively approached the Cole Bros. big top, the unmistakably massive red and yellow tent in the middle of Meriden, just before show time at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Still, the masses converged on the circus tent. It became a safe house. There was a sense of intimidation in the faces of parents and their children as a black and menacing line of clouds approached with cold, wet winds. Many decided to forgo the opportunity to ride atop elephants, purchase cotton candy or meet and greet clowns outside the tent. They wanted to get inside and see the show.
The circus rolled into town early Monday morning, and with it came the giddy excitement of a simple, traditional and truly American style of entertainment. No storm could put a damper on this.

For Michael Laskowski, who accompanied his mother, father and siblings to the circus for the first time, it’s “the place where they do funny things.”
“They’ll try and stand on their noses and bounce monkeys on one finger,” Michael said, guessing what kind of strange and funny things he will see on his first trip to the circus.
“They’ve never gone before,” Michael’s mother Christine Laskowski said, “and it’s something every child and adult should enjoy.”
