Gigs at county fairs involve much more than just guitars and amplifiers for Michael Britt of the band Lonestar.

There is the smell of funnel cake and cotton candy, he said, both of which can usually be detected from the stage. At past county fair performances, said Britt, who is originally from Texas but lives in Nashville. Lonestar members have bantered with the crowd about how good the cotton candy smells. On more than one occasion, that resulted in a delivery of the confectionary to the foot of the stage.

Lonestar, well-known for the hit, “I’m Already There,” has performed at many county fairs around the country and will be in Rhinebeck on Thursday to perform at the Dutchess County Fair.
