On my MOTHERS passing 12/27/12. Francis Scheuer
Dear friends, associates and acquaintances:
During the afternoon of December 27th, 2012 my mother, Dorothy Marie Grotefent,  passed away at home with myself and her grandson Paul at her bedside.
There is much I could say about this wonderful woman whose life spanned 89 years. Of course this is not the forum for that.
Lightly over: Dorothy was born in Halfway, Mi. A suburb of Detroit, Mi. She was not a HALF WAY woman. Adventurous to the end. As an early member of the 'divorced mothers' category when credit cards and easy finance were not available she persisted and brought up her three children in a noteworthy manner.
A major turning point in her life occurred with the proposal of marriage from Arthur Grotefent, a dynamic member of the famous Wallenda circus family. In 1964 she moved from the manufacturing city of Detroit to sunny and dynamically artistic Sarasota. The freedom of the Gulf of Mexico improved her in many ways
As a writer, entertainer and philosopher, she took up circus as her subject. For over 10 years she wrote a bi-monthly article "Life is a Circus" for the Longboat Key observer. Dorothy also authored 2 fine books on circus life, culture and activities.
As with many wives these days she shepherded her husband of 45 years thru his Alzheimer's condition and his transition. A true and faithful partner to the end for her friends and family.
Respectfully, Francis Scheuer
For those who wish to visit Dorthy and myself: services will be held Thursday January 10th at Palms-Robards Home, 170 S. Honore Ave (cnr. Fruitville Rd.) from 10:00 until 2:00 p.m.
(Optional) In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Grotefent Circus Fund, P.O. Box 1341, Sarasota, Fl. 34230
