I remember a big hit in the summer time was when Dad would take Bill and Me to the Kent & Sussex Fair to see the Joie Chitwood Thrill Show. Of course now it's the Delaware State Fair.
Thrill Shows are now kinda a thing of the past. There are still a couple shows around.
Especially in the Northeast. I noticed at Honesdale, PA they had one this year.
Joie Chitwood raced in the Indy 500...his trademark was to hold a scarf in his left hand as he crossed the finish line. They made a movie based on him, Clark Gable was in the starring role. The flics name was "To Please A Lady".
ReplyDeleteI only met Joie once in Tampa in 1962 when I was in the Cristiani Winter Quarters in Riverview, Fla.
I used to sneak under the curtains at one fair and into the grandstand at another to see the thrill shows.
