Cambodian Circus At JP Today
Written by Borneo Bulletin
Sunday, 10 April 2011 05:56 Bandar Seri Begawan - For the Francophonie week, Alliance Francaise in Brunei organised an hour-long circus show this afternoon in the main amphitheatre of Jerudong Park. Seven young artists from the Cambodian troupe "Phare Ponleu Selpak" will amaze the audience with poetic acrobatics, juggling, unbelievable contortions, and clowning acts during this family show. PP's artists have lots of imagination and humour for this show designed for the Brunei public, based on 10 French words evoking link and solidarity. The magic is increased with the presence of musicians from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, who will play music and share the stage in a dialogue between modernity and traditions and in two cultural areas. "Phare Ponleu Selpak" means the "brightness of art", and is also an N GO, which goal is to support community development by providing social, educational and cultural services. This association, focused on artistic practices, is in Brunei to promote different actions: a child care centre, a leisure centre, a library and three arts schools. Members are welcome.
