When the Allentown Fair opens Aug. 28, it will be like the song in the movie "All That Jazz."
Everything old is new again.
One of the fair's biggest attractions will be The Civil War Road Show, a traveling exhibit developed for the war's 150th anniversary that uses images, sound, words, objects and interactive multimedia to tell the stories of how Pennsylvania's men, women, children and communities experienced the Civil War. It will be localized to tell Lehigh County's story.
There will be activities to commemorate Allentown's 250th anniversary, and the fair's 160th. For example, one category for exhibition in the fair's Agri-Plex is historical mementos from the Queen City. The 4-H organization, which is central to the fair's agricultural exhibits and competition, celebrates its own 100th anniversary this year.
Even the fair's mascot, Moodonna the cow, has a makeover — a new costume for the first time since fair Marketing Director Bonnie Brosious created her in 1993.
"This is the year of makeovers," Brosious says. "What's old is new."
