Fair Season in Connecticut

A rundown of the big fairs in Connecticut.

Summer is coming to an end and kids are headed back to school, so that means it's fair season in Connecticut.
Agricultural fairs have been a big part of the state's history for two centuries.  Most of the state's major fairs offer rides, games and entertainment as well as food, commercial exhibits and competitions in livestock, fruits, vegetables, baked goods and crafts.
Three fairs get underway Labor Day weekend.
The Haddam Neck Fair (Aug. 31-Sept. 3) offers rides, food, exhibits and a petting zoo.  There are concerts each day, and competitions, including cattle judging, a truck and tractor show and a dog agility competition.
The Woodstock Fair (Aug. 31-Sept. 3) has music, magic shows for kids and a number of competitions.  There will be a horse show, cattle show, a Karaoke contest and a pizza eating contest.  The midway will have rides and games. Tony Orlando takes the stage Saturday Sept. 1 at 8 p.m.
In Goshen, they're celebrating the 100th Goshen Fair (Sept. 1-Sept. 3).  Organizers promise fun and special events to celebrate the historic milestone.  There will be music, livestock, a lumberjack competition and more.  Special contests to celebrate the 100th Goshen Fair will also be held, including a skillet toss and a nail driving contest.
