French circus troupe forced to pull out of Morton Stanley Festival

A CIRCUS troupe has been forced to cancel performances, including ones at Redditch’s Morton Stanley Festival, after a key performer was injured.

Priscilla, star female performer of La Famille Goldini, was hurt during a practice session in France over the weekend and has been ruled out of action for several weeks. The two-day Morton Stanley Festival begins on Saturday.
Homegrown talent from local circus group circusMASH, who had been set to perform in the festival’s community area alongside the award-winning French outfit, will now have that area to themselves.
Redditch Borough Council’s arts development and events officer Huw Moseley said: “We all know that with circus as with anything physical there is always the chance of injuries, even with all the training. Their acclaimed act was famous for its intensity. We are obviously disappointed to lose them and we wish Priscilla a speedy recovery.
“Meanwhile the locally-produced circus performances from circusMASH, which Redditch youngsters have been working hard on all summer and which was the whole reason we focused on circus in the first place, will be fantastic - and the rest of the festival lineup is strong.”
The free Morton Stanley Festival takes place on Saturday, August 17 from 1pm to 11pm and Sunday, August 18 from 1pm to 7pm, with the community area – including Family Fun Zone and lots of interesting stalls – open from 1pm to 6pm on both days.

This year’s main acts will be the South American sounds of Los Chinches and classy Cambridge folk act Ezio, with Saturday night is set aside for local bands to rock the stage in usual Morton Stanley fashion.

Ample car parking at the Festival is available via Green Lane. Please note this is the park car park at the other end of the Morton Stanley Park where the foot ball pitches are, the car park at the main entrance will be required for event crews. Roads will be signed for the festival.
