Washington Firefighters Hose Down Elephants Before Performance

WASHINGTON, Iowa - Firefighters had an usual call on Monday as crews worked to fight mud instead of flames. The fire department hosed down Viola and Kelly, two elephants with the Carson and Barnes Circus, at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

Each of the Asian elephants weighs up to 10,000 pounds and it It takes 300 to 400 gallons of water to wash them off.
