For circus performer Anton Franke, visiting the Ector County Coliseum is a reminder of his home.
"We love this town," the Ukrainian-born performer said about his upcoming return to West Texas. "We have an Odessa on the coast of the Black Sea and this town is really, really famous. There were so many comedians who were born in Odessa."
Franke, who was raised and attended school in St. Petersburg, Russia, is in the middle of his second yearlong U.S. tour with Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus.
The traveling group will bring its "Fully Charged Gold Edition" show to the Ector County Coliseum this week. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday, 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. July 28. An all-access pre-show -- included with price of admission -- begins one hour before showtime and allows audience members time to visit with performers, see the animals, get autographs and try on costumes.
Tickets range in price from $15 to $30 and are available at boxofficesolutions.net, at Ector County Coliseum or by calling 432-967-1631.
Franke said West Texans can expect to see animals such as elephants, horses, camels and dogs at this year's show.
"The topic of the show is about energy," he said. "They will see elephants and there will be a lot of acrobats. There will be a strongman also in the show and, of course, they will see comedy."
Comedy is Franke's specialty
