MT. MORRIS, MI – The Genesee County Fair will kickstart its activities at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13 and conclude Aug. 19, but preparations have been ongoing for about a week.
On Sunday, the majority of the tents were up, most of the farm animals were in and the last rides were being hammered and secured by Mid-America Shows.

The new additions this year include an elephant encounter, a baby animal exhibit and a "Redneck Olympics" event.
"It's been going good," said Chris Miller, who has been the fair's executive director for 16 years. "We were kind of stalled by some of the weather, but we're going to open on time."
He said sales are up this year, there is positive feedback on the entertainment lineup and that he hopes to get 200,000 people out to the E.M. Cummings Center for the fair.
The fair operates on 80 acres of land.
