Despite a busy weekend of events from Mumfest in New Bern to the Mullet Festival in Swansboro, attendance was up at the Coastal Carolina Agricultural Fair.

Mickey Tillman, president of the Craven County Jaycees, said 300 paying customers attended the fair Thursday on opening night, which was slightly more than last year.

“It was an excellent turnout for opening night,” Tillman said.

By Friday night, the numbers swelled to a little more than 1,400 and the large number of people attending Mumfest over the weekend did not hurt attendance at the fair, Tillman said.

“I would like to say it (Mumfest) has been a draw for both of us,” Tillman said. “After Mumfest closed Saturday it was like the flood gates opening at the fair. They came in carloads.”

This year the Coastal Carolina Fair is presenting a circus on the midway and a human cannonball.
