Are Fairs and Festivals in Danger?

People down at the Strawberry Festival are having a berry good time right now, but could similar festivals be canceled next year? It might sound strange but the men and women behind these types of events are worried right now with the news that the state is cutting their funding.
Lottery money is used to support fairs and festivals, with funds distributed through the culture and history fund. This year, because of Governor Tomblin's across the board budget cuts, that fund will lose $830,000. Many of our fairs and festival committees have been using the state's money to pay for one of the biggest ticket items of any event, insurance. When we asked one of the heads of the Strawberry Festival Committee for his reaction he said they'll have to find the money somewhere, but he's confident they'll be able to do that.
According to the Associations of Fairs and Festivals the funding cuts will affect about 300 registered and independent events.
