SAN BERNARDINO >> The circus is coming to town Thursday, but the show starts Tuesday.
For seven hours, a 20-person crew from circus Vargas crew will be “raising the big top,” of what they say is one of the largest such tents in the United States.
Tens of thousands of square feet of canvas fabric, dozens of poles, hundreds of stakes and miles of rope and cable are placed in a show that organizers say is worth watching on its own.
The circus has performances on Waterman Avenue just off the 10 Freeway from Thursday to Monday.
“The big top really is the star of the show. It’s where the magic happens,” said Nelson Quiroga, CEO of Circus Vargas, in a news release. “Everyone should experience the circus, as it was meant to be, under the Big Top!”
The best time to watch the raising of the tent is from 3 to 5 p.m., according to spokeswoman Nicole Olney.
The circus goes to the Ontario Mills Mall where its first performance will be March 27 and then to Chino on April 10.
