Watching the Ansar Shrine Circus was a tradition Sara Garcia cherished with her grandfather decades ago.
Now, the Springfield mother of two said she wanted to share the experience with her daughters, Sophia, 4, and Lucia, 1.
On Saturday, Garcia, 34, brought the family to the Royal Hanneford Circus sponsored by the Ansar Shrine in Springfield at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.
She said, as a youngster, she enjoyed seeing the tigers, trapeze artists and the variety of entertainment the circus had to offer with her grandfather, Clyde Van Dyke, a former Shriner in Springfield.
Being able to see her daughters enjoy the performance was just as much fun now as it was then, she said.
“It was awesome,” she said. “I hope I can bring the kids here every year.”
The Ansar Shrine celebrated its 66th circus in Springfield this year. The circus continues Sunday with shows at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
