A member of the Flying Cortes' stretches before the show began on Jan. 17 in the Perani Arena in Flint. The Flying Cortes' have been entertaining audiences for 5 generations and this year are part of the 70th annual Shrine Circus.

A tiger jumps through a ring of fire during the 70th annual Shrine Circus came to Flint in the Perani Arena on Jan. 17. The tiger is part of an act by trainer Brunon Blaszak who is a third generation tiger trainer. "Growing up, it was a great education," he said of his life in the circus. "It was a wonderful life growing up and it is still wonderful this very day."

Bo the elephant performs with his trainer Larry Carden. Bo can perform more than 60 maneuvers and is constantly being taught new tricks for his act. He is the currently the largest elephant performing in the United States. The 70th annual Shrine Circus came to Flint in the Perani Arena on Jan.17.
