Local families were mesmerized by the flying acrobats and tightrope artists who performed in the American Crown Circus show Tuesday night in El Centro.
Having popped up their tent Monday evening at Swarthout Park in El Centro, the traveling circus made a two-day stop in the Valley to help bring smiles to some local children’s faces, explained circus manager Roberto Spain.
“The circus brings a different type of entertainment to the kids,” Spain said.
The tent’s yellow and green stripes surrounded the more than 400 people that attended the evening show, with many children standing on chairs to take a peek at the magical performance.
Audience members like El Centro resident Dixie Duran were also at the edges of their seats, as clowns, acrobats, magicians and jugglers all performed dangerous tricks throughout the evening.
“It was really good,” Duran said. “I decided to come and bring my kids because it’s hardly ever that we have a circus here in the Valley.”
Also enjoying the circus with her family, Holtville resident Basia Claverie brought her son Zane, 4, to see the circus for the first time.
“I think it’s good that we have a circus in town, even if it’s for two days,” Claverie said. “It’s good for the kids because it makes them happy and gives them something to do, so they don’t have to sit at home bored.”
Traveling from February through November the circus’ next stop will be in National City and later in Poway.
