BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Kids in Burlington didn't have to run away to try to join the circus. The circus came to town Saturday instead, hoping to take on some new acts.
Kids jumped through hoops to earn a spot on the Circus Smirkus group. Over 100 audition tapes were narrowed down to 40. Kids ages 10 to 18 rolled out their best moves to land in one of the 30 open slots. Performers from 15 different states and two countries hope to join the circus leaving program directors excited for the new talent ahead.
Ed LeClair, Circus Smirkus Director said, "The amount of human potential that we see in the center ring, these kids laying it on the line, doing something that they really love and showcasing to all the people that care about them in these auditions. It's really heart warming for me."
Circus Smirkus is traveling to 17 cities in New England this summer for 70 performances.
