A little town on wheels is on its way to Paris.
The 75th anniversary birthday celebration of the Kelly Miller Circus is underway and will be in Paris on Tuesday, May 7, at the Edgar County Fairgrounds. Show times will be at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Families are encouraged to come and see the tent going up.
“People can come to the midway and ride elephants, camels and ponies,” John Sayre, of Kelly Miller said. He works as a clown named J. Phineas Ballyhoo. “Come out and watch us put up the tent. The highlight is watching Lisa the Elephant help put up the main post of the big top.”
Features of the circus will include old-fashioned clowns, elephants, zebras, tigers and a patriotic review which includes llamas, dogs and baby goats.
Sayre says the pre-show is exciting to watch. The public will have a chance to get up close to the animals and meet the performers. There will be a bouncy castle, picture opportunities and a lot of candy and merchandise for sale.
“There is an educational aspect to the the program,” Sayre said. “Performers talk to the kids about what they do and facts about the circus.”
