ROCHESTER,NH — “Dare to compare our pricing with other fairs,” challenges the Rochester Fair website, as it reveals the entry costs for the 138th annual Fair, which runs from Friday, Sept. 13 to Sunday, Sept. 22.
The admission cost per person, this year, is $14, and includes a bracelet for all the mechanical rides, with one exception — the brand new Speed XXL, for which there is an extra charge.
Those doubting souls who do go online to check out the price of other fairs, such as Deerfield and Fryeburg, will find that the claim made by General Manager Mark Perry — that Rochester Fair is the best bargain around — is accurate, for other fairs are charging $20 or $25 for ride bracelets.
Some folks, in recent years, have complained that because they never go on the rides, they’re being unfairly impacted by a pricing scheme that now incorporates the cost of a ride bracelet into the gate fee. Very good news, in this department. For everyone wanting to stroll through the animal barns and view the exhibition halls, admission is free from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. Thus, senior citizens or mothers with children in strollers, for example, can walk in the gates at no charge, or drive in for a parking fee of $5, and stay as long as they like. There is no 1 p.m. curfew. The free mornings at the fair will be sponsored by Federal Savings Bank.
