PLANT CITY - The Florida Strawberry Festival is rolling out the red carpet to the families of three law enforcement officers and a solider killed in the line of duty.
The festival is offering free admission, midway rides, food and tickets to headline entertainment March 9 to the families of Tampa police officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab, who were killed in a June traffic stop; Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy Mark A. Longway, who died in September when his patrol car collided with a tractor-trailer; and Army Pfc. Paul O. Cuzzupe II, who was killed in August by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
Festival officials aren't sure whether all the families will attend but the invitation has been extended. A ceremony at 3:15 p.m. on the Wish Farms Soundstage will honor the family members who are able to appear for the event, festival General Manager Paul Davis said.
"We want them to know that the festival and the people of Plant City will always appreciate and remember the sacrifices they have made," Davis said.
They will be honored as part of American Heroes Day, when the festival offers free gate admission to all active, retired and reserve members of the U.S. armed forces, law enforcement officers, firefighters and other first responders with ID.
